“The Vans Warped Tour was once a celebrated traveling music festival that launched the careers of numerous punk and alternative bands. However, its legacy has been marred by a pervasive culture of sexual misconduct and misogyny. Over its 24-year run, the festival faced numerous allegations of harassment and assault, with founder Kevin Lyman dismissing such incidents as "part of the culture.
“Despite claims of addressing these issues, Warped Tour continued to provide a platform for artists accused of misconduct, including Jake McElfresh (Front Porch Step) and Ronnie Radke, who faced allegations of inappropriate interactions with underage fans. The male-dominated lineups and "bro culture" fostered an environment where female artists and attendees often felt unsafe or objectified.
“As the #MeToo movement gained momentum, Warped Tour's failure to adequately address systemic issues of exploitation within its ranks became increasingly untenable. The festival's demise in 2018 coincided with a reckoning for the broader alternative music scene, which has seen numerous high-profile cases of artists abusing their power and preying on vulnerable young fans.
“While Warped Tour provided a sense of community for many, its legacy is overshadowed by the trauma experienced by countless individuals who fell victim to the predatory behavior it enabled and normalized. As the music industry continues to grapple with its deep-rooted problems of misconduct and gender-based discrimination, the cautionary tale of Warped Tour serves as a reminder of the need for accountability and systemic change.” (Perplexity)

Falling In Reverse - The Drug In Me Is You | Regretting The Past
It's all about the bands. I love festivals but seeing new bands and bands that aren't really big yet mixed in with classics makes it worth it.
19:55 I would actually argue that "Hold On" isn't very good lyrically, either. The lyrics are mostly just generic motivational cliches that are really non-specific and vague. When you're trying to talk someone out of suicide, you should really be tailoring the message you're trying to get across so that it resonates with them specifically. Good Charlotte's song, by contrast, offers what from my perspective seems the sort of generic advice that a lot of depressed people are tired of receiving from well-meaning people whose nevertheless isn't very effective. While there do seem to be a lot of people that felt the song really did speak to them and help them get through hard times, I personally don't find it to have much of an emotional impact on me. There's also the unfortunate line during the bridge "Do you know what you're doing to me?" Although I don't think this was the intention of the band, this comes off as essentially the narrator making the situation about him and his feelings, rather than the suffering of the actually suicidal person.
I snuck backstage stage one year and met tiger army, back in the late 2000s at the slc date. Good times
I am reminded that of Guitar Hero 2 which had a Warped tour level where you perform songs by the Allman Brothers and Stray Cats. Not exactly Warped Tour music but can't go wrong with "Jessica".
Video: criticising Disney Disney: want a princess tower?
Follow the Leader is one of the best Korn albums of all time next to Life is Peachy and self titled
Oh, man. Really makes me think of that one The Lawrence Arms song :)
So luke do you have any good memories you remember fondly?
"Social media is bad because we can no longer hide SA and shove it under a rug" Is basically what lyman is saying
how did i not see primus the last time i checked 😂
Maybe next year. Idt it'll be a traveling 30 city tour
I have good memories of my only Warped Tour ‘09 in Toronto. Discovered quite a few bands there as well.
My good Warped Tour memory is going in 1996 at Red Rocks in Denver. That was such a wacky place to see NoFX, Pennywise and others. Definitely a far different era from the later years.
They need to bring it back so August Is Falling can headline.
For a second I confused "Of Mice & Men" with "Of Monsters and Men"
Saw the main video and honestly, it should stay buried. As much as the last run was the best after so many years, there's still a lot of negativity from what's happened before and really, if they want to try again, then they'll need to honestly and truthfully learn from what went wrong, keep it minimal like they did for the final year and possibly do a whole rebrand as something new to "rise from the ashes" after what's happened.
Brand New were such a good band, that reconciling this level of immaturity with them, is offensive for tge sake of the credit 'fans' could have extended to them, over the years. Arguable how many of those five albums are the best rock albums ever, but there is no excuse for the behaviours so fans and other bands members even, woooo we got it bad (taking back Sunday reference)
Here i thought i would have my memory of atilla and blood on the dance floor blocked. Sadly not...
I don’t think we need to bring warped tour back when we have WWWY Fest. That’s basically the new Warped Tour
No Values was the best festival all year
Weird fact: I actually thought Warped died when Fuse stopped covering it.
Warped 2003, like 2 months after my dad died. I was at the Yellowcard booth telling Ryan about how "Life of a Salesman" helped me cope with it. Dude gave me the biggest hug, two free shirts, and invited me up to sing that along with him. Fantastic guy. Probably my best Warped memory of all time.
You can buy monster warped tour “tour water” at gas stations. Yeah that warm aluminum tasting water we got out of a can was really great back then…
Taco bell ?
No. Only because I live about an hour from a really solid venue that has shows with every band that would be on a Warped Tour anyway.
Saw escape the fate, blessthefall and miss may I in 2015. Lucky me the bands I picked don’t have these allegations.
The Second Chance Rule is probably one of the stupidest choices ever made in the music world. Probably Just as stupid as Chris Fronzak deciding he wants to run for president. (No Really)
I feel now that people know they do not have to be afraid to speak up and that this behavior will not be tolerated anymore that this tour could come back safe for everyone and give the new bands a platform again.
Warped Tour should absolutely come back. There are always going to be shitty problematic people who have no place anywhere other than a cell. But there are also more bands that got their starts there and more people who have life long friendships or even relationships that were made at Warped that would have never happened. There's nothing like that where new up and coming bands can get their names out there. The later years of warped absolutely had a culture and community. Its the community and culture of Alt music. And the elitist issue wouldn't not be a thing even if they just kept it to the late 90s and early 2000s version, nor would the shitty people.
What's even worse with Simple Plan is that if I'm not mistaken, the touring bassist they replaced David with was also accused of doing essentially the same thing.
Damn. I know it’s horrible that that happened and all, but a part of me finds the irony of that whole situation you described morbidly hilarious. Holy shit.
i have a feeling Mayhem Fest will not do good hopefully the tour is a better lineup
I feel Luke's favourite memory of Sum 41 had a missed opportunity where he could have asked the medic to look at his cut and ask "Does this look infected?"
Wow I never thought of that. Missed opportunity.
@@RockedNet to be fair, it's hard to think up of darkly comedic puns when your head was currently bleeding profusely lol
Boring as shit
Last Wapred I went to was 2010 after a 6 year break...there was a creepy vibe for sure. Seeing merch guys in there 20s and 30s gross flirting with high school girls made my skin crawl
#barf
I saw many great bands at Warped Tour, my first was 1996 and a few years later did street team work for Dropkick Murphys so got backstage, met many amazing bands. I also got to see which bands and artists were huge jerks. Kid Rock slightly before he got big was like Jamie Kennedy from Malibu's Most Wanted aka in he tried hard to be black. Further proving how fake he is now...and then. He acted like a rock star and it pissed others off. The guy from The Used refused to leave his bus but did when young groupies were around it. The guys from Good Charlotte were one of the only bands I ever saw with security with them and an entourage. By the final Warped Tours I attended, a bunch of the older bands were actually staying in different backstage areas away from the younger bands. I think they started to see a change as well. Coolest person I met...Andrew WK. The guy hung with us after all the bands left. He even jumped in a car with some fans and went to 7-11 and his manager had no idea where he was. Should it return...It was going way downhill when it ended and it would be way too overpriced now if it did happen. NOW if it were a lineup similar to the No Values show with many legendary bands, hell yes, well worth it. Warped lost its way, became too corporate. It would never be the same. I doubt though unless run by the right people for the right reasons you would ever see Warped Tour like it once was and like it was originally meant to be.
Warped Tour is the place for rapists and pedophiles! 6ix9ine & Diddy would be perfect for the revival!
I went to a few warped tours, ‘04,05’, 06’. $50 a ticket lol Even back then we knew all those scene kid pop punk bands were creepers. 95% of the crowd was made up of kids. Teenage girls and a bunch of 20/30 something year old dudes on stage.
Am I the only one that has a weird pause at 9:05? It works fine if I forward it a bit but it just stops at that 9:05 mark.
How about we scrap rock tours in general and have rock bands make movies out of their live shows that can be shown in theaters? It seems both movies (too expensive to make) and rock tours (too risky to attend) have problems appealing to the people. This way we solve two massive problems of the entertainment industry at once. WIN WIN for everyone!
I am a simple rock-loving cat lady, I hear purrs, I click like
That said, I am surprised Anti-Flag wasn't on this list, considering what a big name they are. I'm still planning to get my gunstar tattoo covered up.
I’m a simple man. I see cat, I like.
I don't understand why Sad Summer Fest never comes up in these discussions. You want a cheap GA ticket to see up-and-coming pop punk and emo bands? Sad Summer! It's not nearly as big as Warped Tour was, but neither is the genre I suppose.
Cat!
August is Falling needs a Warped Tour to get a hot tub
I saw the 98 Warp Tour, up in Tahoe (Boreal Resort), and the Deftones fans traveled up to see them, so it was a good turnout, but I got to see some great punk bands (Bad Religion was awesome)
I wasn’t watching the video, just listening, and I thought the cat purring sound was Luke ripping a bong 😂
Didn’t Lyman also complain that Warped wasn’t attracting younger attendees and saying that they’d rather stay inside, play video games and listen to rap music? That’s why it wasn’t much of a shock to me when Warped ended considering he said similar things when he shut the door on Mayhem Fest. But if he can have a change of heart with Mayhem, then who knows what else is possible?
It'll be interesting to see what happens next year with Mayhem Fest.
so i kinda lost all respect for kevin during the whole "austin jones" thing. basically it was well know that he was going after underage girls before that and there were receipts that was sent to him. he tried to bury a lot of it until it became more well known. another artist on the tour (i think his name was something like d-fizzy) basically said they wouldn't do the tour if austin jones was still on it. kevin's response was to try guilt tripping and gaslighting this artist and trying to get them on phone calls with austin so d-fizzy could apologize...... and then 8 months later austin did it again. i think warped tour should stay in the past unless big changes are made.
I remembered watching suicide silence asking alexandra & motionless in white playing there as a 16/17 emo guy wanting to be there so bad because place is full of emos metalheads & other kinds of people that I want to be part of so I can make friends & have a good time there haha
forgot Lost Profits and As I Lay Dying in the list. they're def considered "warped tour" bands....and both far more legit than the Neck Deep dude, where the allegations led nowhere. hell....didn't even mention All Time Low. when it comes to "community" there are a lot of gatekeeping scenesters who see The Fest and PRB with nothing but a good time, but shit on Warped Tour because the major label corporate bands got the crowds, and it fucked with the more DIY bands. Warped Tour had it's own community, and now half hearted nostalgia-bait bands playing into the Warped Tour aesthetic are getting serious numbers on Tiktok to an audience who were too young to go to Warped Tour in the first place. it really is an age thing. when it comes to diversity, i don't really see too much difference between 1999 where blink-182, Eminem, No Doubt, NOFX, and GWAR played, and 10yrs later when Alkaline Trio, MGK, Less Than Jake, TSOL, and Ice Nine Kills played. what REALLY killed Warped Tour was it grew too big, and had no way to shrink. and the 2nd chance rule: that piece of shit literally walked into the venue surrounded by security, walked on stage, played his set, and left the venue, all surrounded by security. as much anger as i might have for that....at the end of the day, i can understand that decision to let it happen, and it was handled right. that dude is very sick, and built a life and career on the theraputic catharsis of art and music. he fucked up bad, and had that all ripped away without an encore...so to carve out a small section of time for him and make sure every single person was safe and he was in and out quickly was probably healthy. he played 1 set on 1 date of Warped Tour...so the people like me who were not ok with it could just watch another band playing the same time. i think Warped Tour should absolutely come back. it won't. if it did, i would expect it to be like the last one, 2-3 days in 1 venue space in 2-3 venue spaces. longer set times for bigger artists, and more side-show stuff. in essence Warped Tour was just a combination of Riot Fest, Punk Rock Bowling, and When We Were Young but cheaper ticket price and toured.
